Wednesday’s Woman–Mikki Rogers

I found today’s Wednesday’s Woman on Twitter, and she’s about to take off on an amazing adventure around the world! And now, here is Mikki in her own words…

I see myself as just another woman who has a strong desire to make a difference in the world.  I am honored to be a part of Wednesday’s Woman.

My name is Mikki Rogers and I love to dabble in lots of things such as cooking, reading, decorating and singing.  But there is nothing I love better than being a mom.  I am a proud mother of 4 beautiful children and an even prouder grandma of 3, almost 4, gorgeous grandchildren.  I feel blessed in my life to have been able to stay home all the years I had my kids home to raise and nurture them.

Those rewarding years of raising kids have flown so fast and I find myself facing a wonderful opportunity to work hard and serve once again.  This time it’s with a company I was able to help start up called E3 Imagine.  We are an education company that produces early education books and products through a unique way.

All of our products are based on photographs of children and families from all over the world.  Studies have shown that children have an easier time learning from photographs rather than from illustrations (http://bps-research-digest.blogspot.com/2007/04/toddlers-find-photos-easier-to-learn.html).  It’s exciting to see so many wonderful things coming together as we prepare to launch the sell of our first series of books.

I am leaving on September 5th for a 54 -day journey around the world to assist in photographing many of the beautiful children and families that exist all over the globe.  I’m anxious to meet and experience the different lives and cultures that are beyond the small world I live in here in Arizona.  I have so much to learn from seeing how others live and grow together as families in the world.  I look forward to helping children discover that there is a wide world of diversity and lifestyles out there.  But in that diversity, in one way or another, all children and families are still the same everywhere.

One of the things I am most excited about being a part of is a program called Spread the Words.  Our company is committed to giving a book away for every book that is sold, just like the Tom’s Shoes theory.  I am thrilled to be a part of that.  There are so many lives that can be changed through educating just one child.  Education is so empowering and it affects generations to come.

I have spent many years making sacrifices to be able to serve and care for my children at home.  I have given many hours serving in the community and church.  I have been given opportunities in service that have taken me out of my comfort zone and stretched me beyond what I thought I was capable of doing.  There is no better service for me to be a part of than the service I can give to my family.  But this is a new kind of service that I am thrilled to be a part of.  I am excited to grow in ways I wouldn’t even think of.  I look forward to that real joy that I feel in my heart when I learn to sacrifice as I lend a hand to others in need.  I’ve learned in life that it’s truly all about people and what you do to make an impact on lives around you.  Our souls are enlarged.  Our understanding is enlightened.  And our minds expand to see beyond ourselves and our own needs as we give service to others.

I’m just one person who hopes to make a small difference with what I have to offer, which is lots of zest for life and the desire to change a life, one book at a time.
